Active Travel Challenge

By: NHS Harrow

Proposal: We would like to introduce an active travel challenge to get people thinking about the best ways to travel to meetings, to and from work and in their personal life.

The Active Travel Challenge will include all staff in NHS Harrow based at sites across the borough. They will join up into teams of 3 with the aim that they active travel their way across 2 tube lines.  Each team will be given a tube map with the aim to walk or cycle their way from one end of the tube line to the other.

To move one stop people would have to walk 2000 steps (pedometers provided), 20 minutes brisk walking or 10 minutes cycling.    Stickers will be provided to teams to map their progress along the lines.

This would be launched when the weather gets better in March 2011 and would be a month long initiative with the aim for teams to complete 2 lines:  Met Line – Amersham to Aldgate and  Piccadilly Line – Uxbridge to Cockfosters

Organisational Change - We had purchased all necessary promotional goods in order to deliver the project (Spring 2011), but timescales have been delayed.  The organisation has been going through major changes – waiting for everything to settle down – expecting delivery to be Summer 2011.
