Improving Fleet Management

By: Winchester & Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust

This project is in the earliest stages. There are three work streams: review of commercial fleet, review of business mileage, improved driving techniques. An opportunity exists to review the entire fleet used to deliver an in-house Courier Service as leases are due to expire this year. The fleet used to deliver Estates Services will also be reviewed to see if there are economies of scale to be achieved in replacing all vehicles at the same time. When determining the vehicles to be procured, consideration will be given to the greenest model in vehicle type to deliver savings in terms of operating costs and emissions. Employed drivers already attend advanced driver training which includes energy/emission saving tips. Short course are available from the Energy Saving Trust on how to improve driving techniques to reduce emissions. Linked with the Trust's Travel Plan, all other staff will be offered the opportunity to attend these courses.
