By: South Downs Health NHS Trust

Happier staff, good publicity and staff awareness

£129K (Estimated)

1084 tonnes of C02 (Estimated)

The project is being undertaken at Brighton General Hospital which is the largest of the Trust premises and also the HQ of the Trust. It involves replacing large inefficient central steam boiler plants and distribution systems with high efficiency independent local condensing boilers with fully automated building management control system linking all buildings on site. All centralised Domestic hotwater systems are also to be replaced with high efficiency instanteneous plate heat exchangers and point of use water heaters. Due to the actual costs exceeding the available budget, the project had to be phased. The first phase involving Arrundel Building, Fletching and Dyke blocks and the rest Jevington, Marina Cuckmere and Briggs to be included in Phase 2 works.

The funding for the first part of the project was from the £100m pot provided by DH Energy and Sustainability Fund. To expedite the project within the limited timeline, P21 procurement route was adopted.
