This project is intended to offer staff the opportunity to borrow a bike for a period of 4 weeks from the Trust and ‘try cycling’ to and from home to work and/or cycle between the Trust sites
Proposal
We propose to purchase three quality bikes and equipment (helmet, lock, high visibility jacket, and lights) and lend these out to staff for a period of 4 weeks at a time, so staff can try cycling, before committing to buying a bike. As part of the programme we will recommend staff to take up free cycle safety training available from their local borough or Transport for London.
We will also provide a route planning service and offer to guide the participant on their first journey to ensure they are comfortable and safe.
Update
The “I heart cycling programme” was launched on the 14th February 2011
• Following the first round of advertising, thirty people expressed an interest in taking part in the programme.
• The first 4 week programme started on 28th March 2011. Five people took part and cycled a total of 727 miles between them.
• Eight people are taking part in the next programme starting 9th May; and to date a further six people have registered for the 20th June 2011 programme.
• A total of 7 programmes will be run a year, with a maximum of 10 people per programme.
We have teamed up with Cycle Experience to administer the registration of participants and collate the responses to the pre and post cycling questionnaires.
